Untitled, Colors (ongoing series, New World Flag) is an ongoing project addressing humanitarian rights, gerrymandering, and self-awareness. Some colors have been punishable by violence and imprisonment, displaying particular colors and flags may bring risks, and I find it disheartening that there are forbidden colors across many communities. Colors taking on an ideological cast can have dire international consequences for humanity. While I continue this project, each mixed media collage will present a color from every flag around the world creating one unified flag.

My art practice navigates socio-political and environmental issues while sometimes blurring the boundaries between fact and fiction. While thinking about humanity’s fallibility, my work addresses the vulnerability of existence and memory through humanity’s actions toward others, science, and our landscape. I aim to address the loss and fragility in our defined and undefined space of presence and absence by uncovering historical information about a site through the intersection of sculpture, photography, installation, video, light, and sound.

Untitled, Three Boxes (Ocean, Reservoir, Stars, Static) is a double-sided photographic, sculptural installation with circular shapes revealing an acrylic mirror. The mirror reflects the interior photograph creating a crescent moon from various positions, and offers self-reflection. The hanging light makes reflections from the mirror, referencing our temporal existence. The photographs are of the Pacific Ocean and Pyramid Lake Reservoir in California. Pyramid Lake Reservoir is part of a controversial water development system, California State Water Park. The impact of climate change on the Pacific Ocean and the atmospheric conditions have stirred up Earth’s ocean redistributing its heat. Warmer waters are developing along U.S. shores and raising sea levels, affecting the U.S. coast and the atoll islands. The digitally manipulated starry sky merging into television static is one photograph of Pyramid Lake. Untitled, Three Boxes (Ocean, Reservoir, Stars, Static) addresses the impact of human profiteering versus helping communities in need, the environmental impact of climate change, and disinformation.

Untitled, Stars and Static (Oceans and Reservoirs) consists of two photographs addressing climate change, the weak infrastructure of reservoirs, the fallibility of clean water supply for communities, and the controversy connected with the California State Water Park. This landscape photograph depicts the Pacific Ocean and Pyramid Lake Reservoir. The three sections of the photograph transition from the ocean to the night sky, turning into television static. Untitled, Stars and Static (Oceans and Reservoirs) addresses the ongoing battles between private and public water suppliers while creating a new landscape.

Untitled, Shadows (Positive and Negative) is an observational walk searching for light and shadows. The positive shadows form into cellular biological gestures addressing movement, existence, and action. The negative shadows reference cellular biological viruses. The positive and negative, presence and absence, reflect on our social, scientific, and cultural experiences, subtly addressing disinformation.

Untitled, New Lands, is a series of site-specific installations that blur the lines between fact and fiction. I investigate the land, boundaries, and humanity’s carbon footprint. I am fascinated with the familiar and fantastical, with the ephemeral and the unknown, and I navigate through ideas of phenomenological experience and individual memory. Through researching historical and current events related to the site, I create a narrative where the real and imaginary come together. I am attempting to document humanity’s fallibility and mortality through material, form and function.

Untitled (Rounded Form, Light and Shadow) is a multi-layered video of trees during a storm in Michigan. The strong winds blow the trees creating a dance as the various layers of video merge together. The video is hung from the ceiling projecting onto three bentwood sculptures. The mirrors on the sculptures reflect the video onto the opposite wall creating more movement from the bentwood. Untitled (Rounded Form, Light and Shadow) attempts to document humanity’s fallibility through material, form and function by combining reflection and the landscape.

Untitled, Rounded Value (Two Parts) is a site-specific, scattered environment of displaced melaleuca trees accompanied by a topographical drawing connecting the location and movement of these objects over time.The installation offers a metaphor for existence and humanity’s fallibility through material, form and function. The found objects recreate a new existence through individual memory and phenomenological experience.
